Peter Bennie Giangrosso, age 89, passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2013. He was born January 18, 1924 in New Orleans, LA to the late Rosa Alessi Giangrosso and Joseph Giangrosso. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delta Mae Landry Giangrosso, his granddaughter, Jennifer Lawrence, and his siblings, Angelo, Anthony, Joseph, Vincent, Kelly, Michael, Johnny, Salvador, Mary Giangrosso Ganaway, and a very special sister, Frances Giangrosso Waguespack (Murphy) who raised her younger siblings after the untimely death of their mother. Peter is survived by his children; Gayle Giangrosso Lawrence (Jim) and Gerry Giangrosso (Susan), his grandchildren; Vicki Sanderson (Dale), Jimmy Lawrence (Libby), Becky Lawrence Pritchett (Jeremy) and his great grandchildren; Alexis Sanderson, Abigail Sanderson, Carolyn Lawrence, and another expected in April. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Peter served his country proudly as a Marine during World War II and received 2 Purple Hearts and many other commendations during his time of service. He was in the 585th Platoon of the USMC.
The family would like to thank Ormond Nursing Center and its wonderful staff for the many years of loving care he received during his stay there and also the nurses of St. Catherine Hospice for their care during his final months.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, LA on Monday, September 16, 2013 at 11:00 am. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am. Interment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Gayle, we were so sorry to hear of the loss of Mr. Peter to you and your family. Your Dad was such a good roommate for our Dad, Murl Robinson, at Ormond. They were always looking out for each other - checking to make sure their buddy was OK, just like Marines always do. We know you will miss him, but hope you have many memories of happy times.
