Robert F. Gehr, age 79, of Sheboygan, passed away Wednesday morning, December 5, 2012 at his home.
Robert and his brother, Richard were the first set of twins born at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital on June 13, 1933 to Victor and Laura (Kuehlmann) Gehr.
Bob attended US Grant Grade School and was a graduate of Sheboygan North High School, Class of 1952. He served his country in the US Navy for two years active duty aboard the aircraft carrier, the USS Antietam. He remained in the US Naval Reserves for twenty years.
He was previously married to Patricia Ording.
On July 8, 1973 Bob and Bergetta "Bonnie" (Fessenden) Herziger were united in marriage at First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ.
For many years Bob was employed in the office at Kohler Generator until his retirement in 1995.
Bob was a faithful member of First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ. He served on the Board of Directors at the Kohler Credit Union. He was also a member of the Sheboygan Elks Lodge #299.
Bob enjoyed gardening, camping and fishing over the years. He was also an avid Green Bay Packer fan.
In addition to his wife, Bonnie, Bob is survived by his children, Lisa (Phillip) Brotz of Green Bay, Laurel (Mark) Hornick of Cedarburg, and Victoria (Todd) Schumann of Kohler; his step-children, Marian (Randall) Schmidt of Sheboygan, Rick Herziger of Sheboygan Falls, Jean (Mike) Barrile of Naples, FL, Steve (Christy) Herziger of Elkhart Lake, WI, and Louis (Patricia) Herziger of Sheboygan; fifteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his brothers, Donald (Virginia) Gehr of East Troy, WI and his twin, Richard (Elmira) Gehr of Sheboygan; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Gehr and a nephew, Peter Gehr.
Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon, Monday, December 10, 2012 at First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ. Rev. James H. Hollister, Senior Minister, will officiate. Burial will follow at Wildwood Cemetery. A time of visitation and support will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name.
Bob's family would like to express a heartfelt thank-you to the staffs at Vince Lombardi Cancer Center, Comfort Keepers and the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for the excellent care given to him.
Bob will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother who will be dearly missed.
