Samuel Joseph Fenn was born on July 28th, 1930 in Texas to Ida Maurine McIntire and Mark Hannah Fenn.
He grew up in Texas and in 1955 moved to Long Beach, California where he met Miss Ann Moody. They were married on December 10th, 1955 and raised two children, David and Elizabeth. After Dave and Elizabeth graduated from High School, their parents decided to go their own way.
In 1998 Samuel met Sandra Stevenson. They were married on August 19, 2000 in El Cajon, California. He lived with his wife, Sandra, in Long Beach, California until he departed to be with our Lord on August 17, 2014.
During the early years Sam worked as a cement truck driver for Dewey & Bob's in Signal Hill. He remembered delivering one of the last loads of concrete at "Disneyland" before the theme park opened. After working in Signal Hill, he later went to work for Hadley Auto Transport in Pico Rivera. He took the pleasure of delivering new "Fords" to many car dealers in California, Oregon, Nevada and Arizona. While at Hadley he became an active member of the Teamsters Union, rising in the ranks from a Shop Steward and later to a Business Agent. He was one of the founding members of "Teamsters for a Democratic Union "also known as TDU. His passion had always been for the fair treatment of the "working class" and he was the worker's voice to management. He proudly displayed a California license plate TDU4ME for many years.
Sam or "Sammy Joe" as family in Texas referred to him was hard working and a dedicated father. It was important to him to provide a private school Christian education for David and Liz.
Even though Sam was busy at work he was never too busy to play catch with David after work or go on a week-long backpack trip in the Sierra's with the Boy Scouts. Sam's daughter, Liz, will remember forever her dad coming over to visit every Thursday after the birth of her first born child, Evan. They would have lunch and share a special quite time together.
During Sam's last 14 years he traveled with his wife, Sandra, throughout the United States and Europe. One of his dreams was to see the pyramids in Egypt and this he was able to do in 2001.
One of Sam's favorite things was to hear about his grandchildren and great grandchildren accomplishments. He took great joy in attending special events the grandchildren would take part in. This year (2014) Sam proudly attended the ceremony for his grandson, Evan, in becoming an Eagle Scout.
Sam was proud to be a Mason. When he married Sandra he said "Masons will always be a part of my life and I invite you to be a part of this honor with me". Sam was Master of Pacific Rim Masonic Lodge No. 567. He was given the Hiram Award for his service in September of 2005. Sam was also a member of the Norwalk Masonic Lodge, member of the Scottish Rite, 32Degree, member of El Bekal Shrine in Anaheim, California, Potentates Aide, President of the Long Beach Shrine Club, President of the Past Masters Club, President of Signal Hill High Twelve.
Sam's daughter, Liz, and his wife, Sandra, took loving care of him during the last year of his life. The loving families of Sam and Sandra along with many friends were close by his side helping and giving him lots of care and support daily. Thank you God for the wonderful people that helped to make Sam's lasts days comfortable.
He will be forever missed and always loved.
