John Conyne
I was entering 7th grade just as the Mooers/Champlain/Rouses Point school merger resulted in Northeastern Clinton Central School. The new, larger school combined with the onset of my teenage years helped see to it that my grades took a nosedive. Mr. Bliven quietly pulled me aside one day and said, "You don't want to be dragging a 7th grade pencil around again next year". It was a gentle peptalk from an exceedingly nice man who even a burgeoning smart-aleck liked very much. Rest in peace, Mr. Bliven. The Conyne family thought the world of you.

"There is no death. Only a change of worlds". Chief Seattle
Mr. Bliven was my school principle in the early sixties in a very small town of Mooers in about as far north New York as you can get and still be in New York. I still think fondly of him as he was a hero to me. I entered a school system that was composed of children of Caucasian families only. Here comes a little native American girl (remember this was early sixties and the race riots). I was picked on by classmates from the time I entered that school until...Mr Bliven. He came to be a HERO to me. He not only helped me to be proud of who I was. He asked about my history, he helped me to understand that most of my class mates were just uninformed more than they were bullies. I can never prove it but I believe he also helped behind the scenes. The name calling stopped, I was included in more things by my school mates and never again while attending Mooers Central School did I receive any form of prejudice. He was one of the first adults who taught me to encounter hate with love, ignorance with education, intolerance with compassion. No greater legacy can be left by a man than the one that teaches. I thought of him ofter as a adult hoping he had a happy life! My deepest condolences to all of his family. Mr Bliven you were a wonderful man. Donna Lopez Mooers Central School.

Dear George,Chris and Maggie,
I doubt that you will remember me, but I had the privilege of teaching with your Dad. As a new first year teacher I was very apprehensive about my ability to effectively teach a group of thirty + students. I was sitting at my desk doing my plan book when a hand, out of nowhere, dropped on my shoulder. That was my first encounter with your Dad.
He introduce himself and asked if I had any questions about the school system or the faculty. I imagine he was happy to take a break after answering all my inquiries. His last remark at the end of our meeting was," If you need anything I'm just down the hall."
Seth was always available to faculty, staff and parents. He was someone you wanted to be around and we formed a great friendship. My wife, Denise, and I spent time visiting your folks on Oak Street.
In 1965 I transferred to the Plattsburgh Junior/ Senior High School on Broad street. We stayed in touch with each other until he took an administrative position at Northeastern Clinton School District.
Please accept our deepest sympathy with the passing of your Dad. We hope the many fond memories will carry you through these trying times, Denise and I will keep you all in our prayers. I can picture Seth and Charlotte walking hand in hand on the streets of heaven. Charlotte has waited a long time for this reunion. Rest in peace Seth and Charlotte until we meet again.

Dear George, Chris, Maggie and Family,
This morning we learned of your Dad's passing. We offer our deepest sympathy to each of you, to Dad's siblings and to the remainder of the family.
We have many connections with Dad! Your family lived one street behind us on Oak Street, many years ago. My wife Dawn attended elementary school where Dad was a teacher and administrator. We have relatives who, as teachers, worked under Seth in the Plattsburgh City School System. Years later I had the privilege and honor of working with Seth as he served in a number of important administrative positions with the Northeastern Clinton Central School District.
After Dad retired he would stop by school for a visit, usually in the summer, when he returned from Florida. If the time allowed we would have lunch. He always spoke with great pride and so very lovingly of you as his children and of your mother Charlotte. I last spoke to Dad one or two years ago as he prepared to move into different quarters.
Dad was a remarkable and accomplished individual, a man of conviction. Seth was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, a veteran, distinguished educator and school administrator, faith-filled member of the clergy, a gifted musician, an advocate for those less fortunate, a good story teller…just an extraordinarily wonderful human being. He will be very much missed. Please know you are all in our thoughts and prayers.
With heartfelt condolences,
Chris and Dawn de Grandpre'

We are standing on a dock next to a great ship.
As he leaves the dock, we feel a great sense of loss,
for he is a great ship.
As we watch the ship sail away,
he gets smaller and smaller against the horizon.
Eventually, the ship disappears, and someone behind us says,
"There! he's gone!”
But, as someone says “he's gone!”, on the other side of the horizon, someone says.
"There! He comes!"
And that is dying.
Our deepest, heartfelt, condolences.
