Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 3, 2012.

THERESA JURISICH FICOVICH, age 95, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 1 at her daughter's residence with family members at her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Matt J. Ficovich and daughter of the late Anthony (Duba, Croatia) and Marie Vodepic Jurisich (Kuna, Croatia); devoted mother of Wanda Moore (the late W.C. Moore), the late Jean Cognevich (late Maurice Cognevich) and Joan Kain (David); grandmother of Davina C. Pecoraro (Joe), Marilyn M. Simunich (Mike), Maurissa C. Taylor (Kenny), Melinda Moore, Zia K. Brown (David) and Arrie Kain. She is survived by 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great, great-grandchildren. Sister to the late Luke Jurisich, Martha J. Battistella and Malcom Jurisich. She is also survived by sister-in-law Ida Jurisich and many devoted nieces, nephews and cousins. Theresa was born at 518 Dumaine Street in New Orleans, but lived most of her life in Empire, Louisiana until she moved to Metairie in 1990. Theresa enjoyed a rich history of being a past member of the Croatian Community both in Empire and New Orleans. Her great-grandfather, Luke Jurisich, a native of Duba, Croatia is credited with being the "Father of the Oyster Industry" (Dixie Roto, 1967). During her Empire years, she was an active member of St. Ann's Church, the Empire Citizens Organization and the Ladies Auxiliary of the United Slavonian Benevolent Association. She was currently a member of the Croatian American Society and St. Philip Neri Church. Special thanks to Cookie Coates, Mary Migliore, Rajka Vercher and Debbie Mueller for their loving care. Theresa "Tee" was a kind and gentle lady; hers was a life well lived. She will be sadly missed. Visitation on Wednesday, April 4 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. with Christian Mass at 11 a.m. at Jacob Schoen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Ann's Church, Empire LA 70050 or the Croatian American Society, P.O. Box 367, Belle Chasse, LA 70037.

Oh well Ms. Tee I surely will miss our little talks at night. You telling me all about you and your hubby and how he liked to dance. Also how much you loved you daughters taking care of you. That they were good at coming to stay with you at night. Also how great you were by helping me get you in the tub to shower we had no problem at all it was our little game. How you had to put 302 on at night before you went to bed and i would tease you that you were going to the mattress ball .You also told me how tired you were so now you are at peace up there dancing with your hubby and the rest of your family. You know we hate to let the ones we love go but it was you time and we all will miss you very much. My heart goes out to Wanda and Joan I am here for y'all if there is anything I can do. My prayers are with all of you and Ms. Tee I love all of you.
Love and prayers,
