Valda O. Archer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 10, 2013.

Valda Olivia Archer, beloved mother, friend and caregiver, passed away peacefully Saturday Sept.7th 2013 at BayCare Alliant Hospital in Dunedin Florida. She was surrounded by loving family, friends and colleagues. She was 64 years old and is survived by her son Arian Archer of Clearwater FL. Valda was a member of the 10th Street Church of God in St. Petersburg, FL.

Valda was born in Barbados but also called England, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and finally the USA home during her lifetime.
Valda's life was spent in service of the sick and infirm. Her brilliant spirit enabled her to provide light and comfort from within, to treat the emotional needs of her patients, their families, friends and colleagues.

Valda's passion for travel led her to spend many years working contract assignments throughout the United States and other parts of the world. Many years of her nursing career were spent in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. She was an avid collector of artifacts and souvenirs from her work and travel, and truly enjoyed sharing her memories and experiences with friends through stories and photographs. She was enthusiastic about exploring new places with friends and often returned with a unique adventure story that could 'only have happened to Valda'.

Her infectious laugh, caring spirit and her unfailing zest for life will be deeply missed.

A Celebration of her life will be on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 12:00 noon at Moss Feaster Funeral Home, 1320 Main Street, Dunedin, Florida.

I still think of and miss Valda so much I worked with her at Baycare and we had so many laughs. She would go out to visit with our patients who had left and were in rehab and home and I had the pleasure of accompanying her during those times. She was strong in mind and body and I regret not being in Florida as her illness progressed but got a chance for her to hear my voice on the phone. I will always keep my memories of her

To the family, loved ones & friends of Ms. Valda O. Archer. I never got a chance to meet Ms. Valda; however, I met her through my mother, June Mitchell who worked with her in Saudi Arabia and later reconnected in Florida. My mother shared some great memories she had with her friend and colleague; I felt as if I knew her personally. I just wanted to stop by to say reading the comments have been such an inspiration in which I want to live my life with such vibrance, love and inspiration to others. What a beautiful woman both inside and out; I salute Ms. Valda!!!! Adrian, always know you're in our thoughts and prayers and time will heal the pain. Ms. Valda is now dancing and enjoying eternal life with our Heavenly Father. Please know that we are here for you whenever you need words of encouragement or just a listening ear. God Bless you and may Ms. Valda rest in peace.

My Godmommy Valda... I have had so many memories with this remarkable, vibrant, spicy woman that I must share at least three with you all:
1. I remember when Godmommy Valda decided to take all of her goddaughters on a cruise to the Bahamas--my dates could be wrong, but I believe that this was in 2000. We were so excited to go, but being the teenager girls that we were, we got into trouble, (not REAL trouble, but Godmommy Valda trouble), a few days before that and we knew that she was going to cancel the trip, (we were teenagers!) and tell our parents, but she didn't. We had the BEST time ever! She even reserved a dinner with us and the captain of the cruise ship--pretty awesome! Also, since Nyoka lived in New York, she wanted Kendra and I to meet her. That was my godmother. She made connections with people and she wanted people around her to share those connections too.
2. The song "If you Don't Know Me By Now"
I remember when she came to visit us, one of the many times, I would be so excited then. Around this time I was about 8 years old, in 1990. I would just hang around her and my mother and listen to them. Their conversations were so interesting and so funny that even if I tried, I couldn't stay away. I don't know how this would happen, but EVERYTIME she came by, I knew that we would hear this song!
3. Another memorable time, was in December of 2012. She attended my wedding and she was BEAUTIFUL. She laughed and danced the night away. What a sight to see! That was a moment in which there wasn't a lot of commentary, but if you were there, you couldn't help but take in her radiance. My godmother Valda was just that beautiful!
If I could have had one last conversation with her, I would tell her that she has done so much moving around in her lifetime and now she will be able to finally rest. So Godmommy Valda, just relax and enjoy paradise! Love you soooo much!

Valda, you lit up any room you were in. You were one of the first nurses that made me feel welcome in 1995 when I was a 'newbie' in Saudi Arabia. I am privileged to have shared experiences with you in Saudi, the UAE, Vegas and Tampa. You didn't live long but you lived large and made us all better for having known you. Love you hon,

I was introduced to Valda when I was a little girl visiting family. She became an awesome part of my life and more like family than anyone I've ever met. My kids called her Aunt Valda and we are all saddened to have lost her. We will cherish her and carry her in our hearts always. Mom will miss you, we all will miss you, God needed you more. We love you Valda. Renelda Barnes (Macon, GA)

Valda and I worked in Saudi for many years, did some trips together, and we were good friends. Even though we haven't seen each other in many years, we kept in touch. I talked with her (through Facebook) a month back but she did not let me know how ill she was. I see one of the pictures with us in it, I cannot remember where this picture was taken, but we had some adventures. Valda, I will miss you, I considered you part of my family!!

Valda and I met in 1980 when I was pregnant with my daughter Khendra who Valda predicted would be a girl prior to the ultrasound reading, Valda was very proud of that fact. We loved valda so very much as she was a part of our family for over 30 years, we have so many wonderful memories of her. She was such a beautiful person, she loved life and people. There is a big hole in my heart but I know she is in a better place but I still miss her so very much. Rest in peace my beloved friend as it is so well deserved. I will always love and miss you.

Fun-Loving, Go-Getting, No-Nonsense, Bold, Daring, Inspiring, Wise, Beautiful, Awesome! These are just a few of the words I would use in an attempt to describe this amazing gift to the world. Although her late sister, Auntie Yvette was my official Godmother, I claimed Auntie Valda as mine too. My late mom, Heather Hurley Richards completed their lovely trio. In life, they were always together, even if they were miles apart. You could not be in Auntie Valda's presence without laughing at her antics or a joke she was telling. She was so animated; and always so entertaining with a heart as big as it could be. I am convinced that the three are together in God's glory. Auntie Valda lived life to the fullest on Earth and now she will live her eternal life to its fullest in the presence of the Lord in total peace and rest. Thank you Jesus!

I was first introduced to Valda back in 2006 when she became a client of mine. She turned into a great friend, and for the past 7 years I don't think there was a week that went by that Valda and I did not speak to one another. Valda my dear....you will be missed. I love you.

Valda Archer was an amazing woman. As she traveled the world and loved to have a good time. She would send her son post cards and gifts from where ever she was and sometimes she would bring him over to America to visit us over here in the states... Valda has left behind a trail of love laughter in all of her friends and family. She has 3 God children and one honorary God Child Khendra Riley, Nyoka Richards Moise, Tafara Calloway , and Julian Riley. She has cousins that span as far away as Sweeden, a barage of family in New York, and even in Sarasota Florida. She has shared so much with all of us and given so much love and kindness. She will be forever missed.
