Virginia Attwood Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 9, 2011.

Virginia Attwood, 93, of Perrysburg, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 7, 2011 at Sunset House. She was born to Frank and Laura Agnes Lawler on April 11, 1918, in St. Louis, Missouri, and was married to Fred Attwood on May 29, 1943. They lived in Chicago, Illinois, and eventually in the Toledo area.

She and a friend ran the "Ottawa Hills Gift Shop" and she volunteered at the Toledo Hospital Gift Shop for many years. She enjoyed playing golf and tennis at the Inverness Club and at Belmont Country Club.

She also enjoyed travelling around the world as well as spending winters at her home in Florida. In her later years, she loved to bring all her grandchildren and great grandchildren together around her for summer reunions in Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, and her husband Fred. She is survived by her daughter Kathleen Attwood, her four grandchildren and their spouses (Nina Piermatti (François) Ponce, Elsa Piermatti (Jon) Lammiman, Pascal (Nicole) Piermatti, and Gordon (Jennifer) Piermatti) and her six grandchildren (Killian, Samantha, Kailani, Sydney, Mikayla, Izabella, and Alyssa) .
The family would like to thank the staff at Sunset House and at Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the wonderful care and kindness they gave to Virginia.

As a tribute to her long and well-lived life, the family requests that you perform a random act of kindness in memory of Virginia. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, Perrysburg (419-874-3133).

My condolences to Kathy and the family on the loss of the family's matriarch. I did not know my Aunt Ginny very well, but I remember the same 1967 trip that my brother Richard mentioned and she was a gracious hostess and loved her dachshunds. Her big brothers adored her. May she rest in peace. --Terry Lawler Maguire, Portland Oregon

I'm sorry to hear of my Aunt Virginia's passing. She always seemed to be a class act to me. I remember when our family visted her and Fred in the summer of 1967. She deftly handled the rambunctious teenagers of our family.

I'm sorry to hear of the loss of my Aunt Virginia. Though I met her only a few times in my life, she always exhibited an element of class. I remember when our family visited her and Fred in the summer of 1967. She deftly handled the rambunctious teenagers of our family.

It was a pleasure to care for Miss Atwood. She was a down to earth lady. She will be missed by all her ladies at the dinning room table (the golden girls). And myself Danielle White the Aid at Sunset house.

My Dearest dearest Granny,

You have been in my most cherished memories for the longest time and will be for much more.

My daughter has this theory that when someone dies, the soul becomes a star. One can see so many stars in the sky out here, and they are so close some night, one can almost touch them. As you and Umpa finally reunited, you will be one bright and beautiful star and I will happily look up to you every time I can, as I hope, you’ll look down on me and your great grandchildren from time to time …

I am very thankful for all those family reunions you have offered us, You have given me, these past years, more memories to add to my already huge "Most beautiful childhood memory book", to cherish, share and pass on .

I am even more thankful to have had the chance to say goodbye and tell you how much I love you, even though the distance.
May you and Umpa travel the universe as you enjoyed travelling Earth!

I love you with all my heart, Nina.
