William Powell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 28, 2015.

Bill Powell, 87 died December, 25, 2015 from complications of COPD and pneumonia. Bill, son of William Carlisle and Bertha Lee Powell and loving husband of June Crawford Powell went to heaven from his earthly residence in Bastrop, Texas. Bill got to spend part of Christmas with his earthly family and will spend eternity with his Lord and Savior, Jesus.

Bill is survived by his wife of 65 years, June, three daughters, Jean (Jim) Barth of Portland, OR, Barbara (Paul) Pape of Bastrop, Texas, Nancy (Johnny) Burrell of Panhandle, Texas and two sons, Bruce (Julie) Powell of Waxhaw, NC and Chris Powell of Aloha, OR. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He worked as a rancher, a farmer, owned and operated a redi-mix cement plant and an engine overhaul business. He was an accomplished woodworker and enjoyed giving his projects to friends and family.

Bill served 6 years in the Nebraska Army National Guard, Company L of the 134th Infantry Regiment where he was a Light Weapons Infantry Leader. He trained soldiers for combat duty.

Bill loved his family and is known by all as a faithful husband, loving father and follower of Christ. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Visitation and viewing will be at the Marrs-Jones-Newby funeral home on Wednesday, December 30th from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Services will be held Thursday, December 31 at the Bastrop Christian Church at 2:00PM, with Paul Pape officiating. Following the service, internment will be at Fairview Cemetery. There will be a grave side service with Honor Guard.

Bill had a desire to see the Bible translated into every language. Since Bible translators often live in remote areas of the world, a memorial has been established for Missionary Pilot Training. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be mailed to JAARS Inc. P.O. Box 248, Waxhaw, NC 28173. A note should be attached designating the gift to Aviation Training Project # A200.

Bill still had one strong hand shake when we met close to 10 years ago. His redi-mix cement hand shake had barely lessened the last time we shacked hands 3 months ago. The beautiful thing about Bill giving up the Ghost is that we all know he is with Jesus.
