Al was a kind and warm hearted soul. He always greeted us with a smile regardless if he had a troubled day. He listened to our complaints and offered words of wisdom when he saw fit or simply nodded when words were not needed. He treated everyone the same and never passed judgment. He was a great man and friend who will be missed very much. Prayers, love and blessings to his family.

Losing Al has left a huge whole in our close knit work family. For 21 years we have enjoyed the funny, loud, happy and sometimes grouchy Al. No matter what the day brought you always knew Al had your back. He was a great friend and I will miss him immensely. I pray that God will watch over Lisa and her brother's along with their families during this difficult time.
Al, you can now watch over us from above. We love and miss you.

A jingling pocket, a whiskery kiss and hundred of answers to "Daddy, what's this?" A buddy for life that's my dad. A Hand on my shoulder. Some help with a class. A heart to heart talk and money for gas. That's my dad. An anchor of strength a welcoming smile. A Cheerful embrace and the feeling of home. That's my dad. So many memories and words of advice. Unwavering love and immense sacrifice. That's my dad.
I will love and miss you always.

To Al’s family and friends:
Al was one of those people who were like a breath of fresh air. His infectious smile and warm personality made him one of those special people that it was a joy to be around and we here at HMH are all better people for having known him. He will be greatly missed and I hope that your wonderful memories of him will bring you comfort and peace at this difficult time. May you find the courage and strength to move forward in peace and confidence and in knowing that his was a life well-lived. In thinking about your loss, I would like to leave you with the often quoted words of an observer at Abraham Lincoln’s deathbed who said upon his passing, “Now he belongs to the angels.”

When I relocated to Georgia, one of the things I missed most about not being in the Orlando office was hearing the bellow of Al’s voice as he greeted me (always by name) each morning and the genuine care in his voice when he said good-bye each afternoon. Al was a bona fide gentleman and a staple of the HMH community. He will be truly missed.

Al was a good man. I worked under Al for five years, and also attended school with his daughter. He always made me feel like a part of the family whether at work, or the times we spent talking at his home. We spent a few hours talking at his home before I deployed to Iraq in May of 2008 and his advise comforted me greatly. I could always go to Al for advice. Elizabeth, your father will always be in my heart and will be missed greatly.

We'll all miss Al's friendly smile and that ever-present cup of coffee. I'll never forget Al's tenacity when items disappeared in the office... When my wallet was taken from a desk drawer in an enclosed office in the old building, I saw the Chicago Policeman Al in fine form where the Orange County Sheriff's Office was concerned. Thanks to Chris Blackwell, I have a photo with him taken downstairs in the lobby a while back that's sitting in my In Box on my desk. Best wishes to Al's family.

I met Al the day before his passing. Even in the midst of what must have been intense physical pain he was jovial and a joy to be with. We spoke about family and how quickly everything had been turned up side. Then we spoke about faith. I asked, "Do you know Jesus" He said, "Yes, we talk every night!" I then sang a worship song and we felt God's presence fill the room. His gratitude was evident but I assured him it was my pleasure to meet him. He smiled big and motioned with his wiggling fingers that we would keep in touch via e-mail. I am certain Al is with his Savior right now.
