Adelaida Abarro Austria graced our lives on October 16, 1924. She grew up with 4 other sisters and 2 brothers in a bario called Bagbag located in the province of Rosario, Cavite, Philippines.
Despite hardships, Dely grew up to be a woman who was smart beyond her time. She met Eufronio Austria and they married on September 14, 1944. Together, they had 7 children and tried to make the best out of what little money they had. Dely was primarily the homemaker and as you can see, raising 6 out of her 7 surviving children would not have been easy.
Many knew her as "Nanay Dely". She was a devoted mother, wife, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She held very deep religious ties to God and was a practicing Catholic who belonged to many Catholic organizations in the Philippines.
Life was never dull for her. She was always willing to take care of others. She even left her life in the Philippines to help take care of her grandchildren.
Our lives were enriched with her in it. There was a certain smartness to her. She was good in any subject and if she didn't know it, she could certainly learn that subject rather quickly. Her passion for playing the piano ran deep and she loved to cook for her family. She was a caring provider for so many.
Nanay Dely leaves behind 6 children, 13 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. We hold a part of her in each of our hearts. We treasure the memories and the times she reserved for each of us. We will always remember the sacrifices she made so that we could be where we are at right now.
