Alan Lee Allen was born on July 5, 1943, to James M. "Jack" and Bette M. Allen and died on Saturday, March 16, 2013. He attended Wolters Elementary School, Bullard High School, and Fresno State University where he earned his Industrial Technology degree. He enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard and was stationed in Ft. Eustace, VA. On his return, he met and married, Moira O'Neil, and began his family. Al used his university degree to support his career as a general contractor, forming the Albar Industrial Construction Company. He was very inventive and loved restoring old vehicles. He had a strong business sense and an even stronger belief in the revitalization of Downtown Fresno, serving on the Property Business Improvement District committee.
Al was a devoted husband and father who had boundless energy and optimism. He was a generous man who mentored many people during his career and served his church, St. Paul Newman Center, with his many talents and skills. Finally, as leukemia and its treatment overtook his body, he served as a model of strength and inspiration to all who knew him. He died peaceably surrounded by his immediate family.
Al is survived by his wife of 45 years, Moira; his son, Brian and his partner Tom DeBay; daughter, Gail and her husband Dan Ramirez and their children Ben and Sarah. He is survived by his brother, Terry and his wife Joanne; sister Linda and her husband Harold Jones, and brother Dan; his brothers-in-law Barry O'Neil and his wife Carol, Terry O'Neil, and Michael O'Neil and his wife Ricarda. He is survived also by many nieces and nephews whom he loved.
