STOLER, ALAN – Renown Reconstructive Dentist and Oral Implantologist
Alan Stoler, renown reconstructive dentist and oral implantologist, Coral Gables, peacefully passed away at his home on May 15, 2013, Born in Brooklyn, New York on November 26, 1932, he was the son of Ida and Max Stoler. Alan came to Miami Beach with his parents in 1944 and graduated from Miami Beach High School in 1950. A proud Hurricane, he graduated from the University of Miami in three years and then he was off to dental school at the University of Maryland where he graduated in 1957. Alan completed his oral surgery residency at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore and his post graduate studies at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, Boston Graduate Dental School and Walter Reed General Hospital. He proudly served his country as an oral surgeon in the United States Army. Alan became a Board Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology in 1991 and received countless honors by way of Fellow, Diplomate and Master of nearly a dozen Dental Academies, in both the United States and abroad.
A consummate professional and meticulous at his craft, Alan proudly served on the staff of Cedars Medical Center, Jackson Memorial Hospital and Miami Children's Hospital, sharing his knowledge and skill with his peers. He went on to act as Clinical Assistant Professor and Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Florida and his beloved University of Miami, respectively. Well known for his unyielding dedication to teaching and mentoring his much younger dental colleagues, Alan acted as Chairman of the Robert Morgan Center for Dental Care and Education, Oral Implantology Section well into his late seventies. Publishing more than a dozen articles in major journals, appearing on television in both the U.S. and several foreign countries, and lecturing over the course of 25 years on 5 different continents, Alan relished in his dentistry work and was overjoyed whenever he could share his knowledge or talent with other dentists, young and old.
Alan is survived by his devoted wife, Marilyn Wolfson Stoler, son, Richard Stoler (Debbie), daughter, Linda Stoler Perlman, step-children Hal Gerson (Jenn), Mindy Gerson (Mel Underwood), Dana Rosenberg (Mike), brothers in-law and sisters in law Norma and Larry Berenfeld, Bernie and Jessie Wolfson, Jessica Wolfson, Anita Wolfson, dear cousin David Stoler (Diana), and beloved grandchildren Ryan and Rachel Stoler, Sami, Jesse and Gracie Perlman, Jordyn, Alec and Remy Rosenberg, Sophie and Eli Underwood and Jace Gerson.
Alan's family would like to graciously thank VITAS Hospice of Miami for their gentle and loving care in his final weeks.
Services will be held on Friday, May 17, 2013 at 11 am at Temple Judea, 5500 Granada Blvd, Coral Gables, Florida 33146 with Rabbi Judith Segal officiating, burial to follow at Lakeside Memorial Park.
