Alice Jane "Janie" Abernathy, 82, of Charlotte died Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at Carolinas Medical Center, University.
A native of Asheville, Mrs. Abernathy was born to the late James Crichton and Alice Tucker Crichton on December 14, 1927. She was a past member of Craig Avenue Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Abernathy is preceded in death by her first husband, Charlie Short and by son, Richard Abernathy.
Mrs. Abernathy is survived by her husband, Alvin Luther Abernathy of the home; children, Charles Short of Charlotte, Doug Abernathy of New Hampshire, Teresa Abernathy of Charlotte, Dr. Wallace Abernathy of Texas, Sylvia Bryant (Lou) of Florida; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held 11:00a.m., Friday, December 3 in the chapel at Wilson Funeral and Cremation Service, 5301 Albemarle Rd., Charlotte with the Rev. Johnny Lord officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
