Allen E. Deffner, Jr.
Went peacefully to be with the Lord, surrounded by family at home, on Sunday, February 3, 2013 at age 71, after a brief illness. He is the son of the late Allen E. Deffner, Sr. and Gertrude Ostendorf Miller. He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Sandra Manieri Deffner; daughters, Natalie Deffner Parish and Dawn Deffner Tupper; sons- in- law Brady Parish, Jr. and Scott Tupper; grandchildren Evan Parish, Emma Parish, Patrick Tupper and Brooke Tupper; brothers Clarence Deffner and Joe Deffner; sister Nanette Carrigee, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Allen graduated in 1959 from East Jefferson High School and Southeastern Louisiana University in 1965. He was a US Army Veteran who served at Fort Polk, La. in 1967 and Vietnam in 1968. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 6640 in Metairie, La. He was an executive for Tenneco Oil Company and Mobil Oil Company until 1975. He incorporated Armor Systems, Inc in 1976 and sold it to Entergy in 1997 when he retired from employment.
He served on the Board of Directors of Home Builders Association of Louisiana and Alarm Association of Louisiana. He was a past president of Jefferson Rod and Gun Club and the Rotary Club of Metairie. He served on the Board of Directors of the Krewe of Centurions as treasurer. He was a member for 34 years, and reigned as King in 1999. He also served on the Board of Directors of Coastal Conservation Association and Suburban Gun and Rod Club. He was a loyal man of Manresa for 29 years.
He was a lifelong avid fisherman and hunter, and was the true epitome of the Louisiana Sportsman. He was beloved by his grandchildren, with whom he shared and imparted his love of the outdoors. Throughout his marriage, he and Sandra traveled the world with many close friends. He was an inspiration and mentor to many and always had time for others. He will be dearly missed by all.
The family would like to thank St. Joseph Hospice for their loving care, and Fr. Frank Lipps of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Heartfelt thanks to all family and friends who provided support and love during this time. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Hwy, Metairie, LA on Thursday, February 7, 2013 beginning at 10 am with a Funeral Mass to follow at 1pm in the chapel.

To the Deffner Family. I got to know Allen at the pool at the Slidell Athletic club.
I really enjoyed knowing him and seeing his smiling face every week. We talked about our bouts with cancer and I was really shocked and sad to hear of his sudden passing,
I will miss him.

Dear Sandra and Family:
I was very sad to learn of Allen's passing. As you know, we were classmates at East Jefferson. We met again at a reunion and have been corresponding for the last several years. I shared my own cancer battle with Allen and I was shocked when he advised me of his condition. Unfortunately, he did not have a fighting chance to beat this thing like I have. I am comforted to know that you are surrounded by a large and loving family at this sad time. Hopefully, they will ease your sorrow. I want to thank you for the phone call advising me of Allen's condition. It meant a lot to me.
With great sadness,
Vi & Charlie Defourneaux
