Mr. Angus Joseph "Bud" McLean, of LaGrange, passed away in the presence of loved ones in his home on Monday, June 24. Mr. McLean had recently celebrated his ninetieth birthday.
Mr. McLean was born May 27, 1923 in Sidney, Nova Scotia, Canada. At a young age he moved to Michigan where he spent his boyhood and young adult life. After serving in the US Navy during WWII, he studied engineering at Wayne State University in Michigan. During his college years, Mr. McLean began his career with Stran Steel where he worked for thirty-seven years. His career with Stran initiated the move from Michigan to Terre Haute, IN, and from Terre Haute to LaGrange in 1974. Upon his retirement in 1982, Mr. McLean chartered McLean Associates, an engineering consulting firm. In his retirement he enjoyed golf, traveling and all things Scottish. He was a member of the Order of the Tartan, and a Scottish country dancer.
He was a devout Catholic and an active member of St. Peter's Catholic Church where he served in many ministries. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. McLean especially enjoyed serving on the Construction Expansion Committee, for the present St. Peter's Catholic Church located on LaFayette Parkway. He was proud to receive the Faithful Servant Award in 2011.
Mr. McLean is preceded in death by his mother and father, Alexander and Emée DeRosiers-Brochue McLean, seven brothers and sisters, and daughter-in-law Teresa McLean of Athens, GA.
While Mr. McLean was a man of many achievements, his greatest accomplishment was being a loving husband and father of five. Mr. McLean is survived by his devoted wife of sixty-three years, Anne; daughter Cecelia McCormick and her husband Colin, and their sons Ian and Connor, all of Mandeville, LA; son Angus Jr. and his sons Nathaniel ( Daniela) and AJ of Athens, GA; son Andrew and his wife Maykha of Knoxville, TN, and their children Michael, Heather, Jessica, and Andrew McLean of Greenville, SC; son Bruce and his wife Claudia, and their son Daniel of the Kulu Valley, India; and daughter Brigid Smith and husband Randy, of LaGrange, and their daughters Leslie Traylor ( Chad) of LaGrange, and Emily Anne of Raleigh, NC. He also had four cherished great-grandchildren. Additionally, he is survived by an older sister, Mary Relyea of Rapid City, MI; a younger sister, Therese Porch of New Orleans, LA; a younger brother Peter, of Tonawanda, NY; and a multitude of beloved nieces and nephews, especially Mary Catherine Porch of Montgomery, who aided him in his last years.
For all who loved Mr. McLean, the Rosary will be said on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at 6:00 P.M. at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with the visitation to follow from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. The funeral Mass will be at 11:00 A.M. on June 26th at St. Peter's Catholic Church with burial to follow in Meadoway Gardens Cemetery.
