Ann Ellen Cooper, 68, of San Angelo, Texas, passed away early Sunday, May 12, 2013. She was born in San Angelo on Feb. 23, 1945, the daughter of Jack and Florence Cooper. Ann attended Santa Rita Elementary School, Robert Lee Junior High School and graduated from San Angelo Central High School in 1963. She went on to receive her bachelor's degree from the University of Texas Austin in 1967, and a master in fine arts in weaving and fiber arts from the University of North Texas Denton in 1982. Ann spent most of her working career as a unit manager with the Texas Department of Human Services in Denton. She took an early retirement in 2004, and moved back to San Angelo to be closer to her parents and to pursue her passion for art in its many forms. She also loved gardening and caring for her many cats. She was a member of First Christian Church and Western Hills Garden Club. Ann is survived by her sister, Charlotte Cooper Curry; her brother-in-law, Jeffrey E. Curry; nephew Cuchulain Cooper Curry of San Francisco, Calif.; and her many dear Murphy cousins. A memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at First Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Christian Church of San Angelo; Concho Valley PAWS; Critter Shack Rescue; or an animal rescue group of your choice.
