ANN HAILEY EPPS
Ann Hailey Epps, 77, of Atlanta, GA, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2013.
Born in Royston, GA, Ann was the daughter of the late Frank E. and Lula Boswell Hailey and was preceded in death by her sister, Jo Hailey Thompson, and survived by her brother, Frank E. Hailey, Jr. and his wife, Sue, of Athens, GA.
Ann spent her early years traveling from Sanford, FL to Washington, DC as her father was in the hotel business. Tap dancing in the hotel coffee shop to songs like “Shine on Harvest Moon” for the visiting sailors and their dates earned Ann a little spending change. Her family settled in Athens, GA and Ann spent her teenage years as an honor student, superstar Varsity basketball player all four years , and president of her class. She attended the University of Georgia and was a member of Alpha Delta Pi until she married E. Patrick Epps in 1956 and started her big adventure by heading first to Seattle, Washington where she continued her academic studies at the University of Washington. While working in the UofW Accounting Department, Ann was tasked with calling overdue accounts. Her Southern accent was what brought in the money.
Ann & Pat returned to Atlanta, Georgia in 1965 and Ann dedicated herself to being a devoted wife and mother, managing the household and children while Pat ran his aviation business. Epps Aviation at DeKalb-Peachtree Airport would not have been a success for these 48 years had it not been for Ann’s support. Ann still found time to return to college and received her BA from GA State University in 1979.
An avid tennis player, Ann played both singles and doubles with ALTA and USTA, enjoyed gardening, loved feeding and watching birds in her backyard, appreciated the extraordinary paintings of Athos Menaboni and enjoyed traveling to all fifty states (except ND) and around the world with her friends and family.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 10 from 6-8 PM at H.M. Patterson & Son Oglethorpe Hill. Funeral Services held Wednesday, December 11, Peachtree Road United Methodist Church 3180 Peachtree Rd, NW at 2pm. Reception to follow.
