Anthony Joseph Geraci died on August 4, 2013, surrounded by his wife and children and at peace with the world. He was 86 years old.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ella, and his children Barbara Harvey (Glenn), John (Susan), William (Linda), Michael (Lori) and Anthony (Anne). Nine grandchildren survive to carry on his work for justice and service to his fellow man. He was predeceased by his beloved sister Frances.
A native of Rochester, NY, Anthony was born on December 27, 1926 to Italian immigrants Joseph and Madeline Geraci. He graduated from East High School, Alfred University and the University of Buffalo School of Law. His studies were interrupted by service in the US Army during World War II, where he worked as a radio repairman. In 1961 he moved to Penn Yan, NY and spent the next 51 years in his beloved adopted hometown.
He served as the First Public Defender for Yates County, NY for over 25 years. He was also the attorney for the Village of Penn Yan and was very active in the local legal community. Tony was a charter member of the Penn Yan Lions Club, serving as President and overseeing many community projects, including the installation of the playground at Red Jacket Park. He was a dedicated parishioner at Saint Michael's Church.
He was a great father and husband, and was well known among his many friends for his smile, humor and pranks. He was a hard worker who sought justice for all whom he represented. His was the epitome of a life well-lived.
Callings hours will be at Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan, NY on Sunday, August 11, 2013 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. Funeral Mass will be at Saint Michael's Church in Penn Yan on Monday, August 12, 2013 at 11:00am.
