On Saturday, September 8th, 2012, Ardell Blush of North Bend, ended her struggle from the effects of osteoporosis, at age 84. Her courage during this long struggle is an inspiration to her family.
Ardell was born on May 12, 1928 in Aberdeen, South Dakota, to Freeman and Millie Barkuloo. Ardell had one Brother, Duane Barkuloo. Ardell lived in various places during her childhood as the family moved to pursue work during the Depression. They settled in Yakima and started the 5th Avenue Grocery store at the intersection of 6th and Cherry Avenue. Ardell worked many hours helping in the store and going to school at Yakima High School .
Ardell met her husband Bill Blush while attending Yakima Valley College, getting married on May 7th, 1949. Their marriage produced two sons, Thomas D. Blush , born in 1950 and Frederick L. Blush, born in 1954. Bill was in the United States Navy early in their marriage, then transferred to the United States Air Force. They both enjoyed living in Virginia, France, Texas, Utah and Montana during their marriage with Bill leaving the military and settling in Yakima. After Bill's retirement from teaching, they travelled extensively, visiting friends from their military service as well as family members. Bill and Ardell finally settled in Oak Harbor, Washington and moved to North Bend 7 years ago to be closer to family.
Ardell is survived by her Husband, William R. Blush, sons Thomas D. Blush of Pollock Pines, CA., Frederick L. (Lorie) (and wife Lorie ) Blush of North Bend, and Grandson Robert W. Blush. She is preceeded in death by parents Freeman and Millie Barkuloo and brother Duane Barkuloo. Graveside services will be held at Terrance Heights Memorial Cemetery at 1PM on Wednesday, September 19th.
