Byron "Kenneth" Haynes, 88, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away on January 31, 2014 after a brief illness, surrounded by his family at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. Kenneth was born in Lamar, Colorado, on June 28, 1925, and is preceded in death by his father and mother, Rolla and Frances Haynes. Kenneth served in the Navy during World War II and later earned a degree in agricultural economics from the University of Missouri.
Kenneth married Hilda "Jean" Boyer in 1951 and started his family, farming and living in Missouri, before moving to Overland Park in 1961. Kenneth was a long-time employee of Albers Feed and Farm Supply, a subsidiary of Carnation Corporation. During his long career he worked in a number of management positions. Kenneth was active in the Overland Park Masonic Lodge, the Abdallah Shrine and the Presbyterian Church. Kenneth was a devoted husband and father.
Kenneth is survived by Jean, his wife; of more than 60 years, and their two children Martha Hagen (husband Ken) of Topeka and Martin Haynes AIA (wife Patricia A. Thomas, MD) of Overland Park, and grandchildren Emilie Hagen AIA (husband John Schlueter AIA), New York City, NY; Claire Hagen Alvarado (husband Jorge), Austin, Texas; Alexander Haynes (wife Jillian), New York City, NY; Cody and Francesca Haynes, both of Lawrence, Kansas.
Visitation will be Friday, February 7, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at McGilley & Hoge Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, KS. A memorial service will be held at the same location, Saturday, February 8, at10:00 a.m. A family graveside service will be held in St. Joseph, Missouri, at 1:00.
