It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of a beloved father, husband, grandfather, great grandfather and great friend to all who knew him, Bernie Barry.
He was born November 13, 1934 in Baker, Minnesota in an old farm house where he spent his youth. He had 3 brothers (Don, Paul & Jim) and they worked the farm until his teen age years. He went to Barnesville High School where he played football and track. He was known as quite the prankster around town. Here he met the woman he was meant to spend his life with, Irene Ann Thompson. They moved their family to Washington State in 1956. His 35 year career with Boeing started soon after. He was a Mechanical Engineer in the Planning department. He spent part of his time at Boeing as a manager and instructor where he touched many lives; "He taught us a lot about building, tooling and designing aircraft but also about being a good human being!" (Rolf Parks).
Once Mom & Dad retired they spent the next 10 years traveling by motor home. They took a trip to Mexico with a caravan of friends; they spent a few months driving around the United States, leaving Washington, traveling to the East coast then down the eastern sea board, then along the southern states and then back up the west coast. They visited many national parks, monuments & friends along the way. They frequently visited Palm Desert, Arizona, Minnesota for Potato Days and reunions.
His hobbies included woodworking, camping, square dancing, bowling and traveling (including cruises to exotic locations) but most of all he was a dedicated Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather. He leaves behind 5 children (Skip Barry, Cindy Whitehead, Tom Barry, Cheryl Gonzalez and Brad Barry), 11 Grandkids (Jen, Jody, Jaime, Jennifer, Jason, Jamie, Nicole, Nathan, Kyle, Nichole, Candy), 13 Great Grandkids (Paul, Tehnley, Kian, Cahle, Grandson due August 2012, Justin, Kevin, Brandon, Alia, Gavin, Kaitlin, Anthony, Micah).
His wife of 48+ years, Irene Ann, died April 15th, 2001. Dad & Mom are dancing together again.
Instead of flowers please send donations to the American Cancer Society in Bernie's name.
