Surrounded by the love of his family, Bernard Hoo, a very special and wonderful man passed away on June 27th at St. Joseph's Lifecare Centre. Bernard was a devoted and loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. He has now been reunited with the love of his life Barbara Helen Hoo (nee Barry) who predeceased him on June 2, 1992. Bernard is survived by his eight children who he always talked about with pride - George and Sheila of Elliott Lake, Jack and Rita Olmstead, and Larry of Brantford, Jim and Mary of Harley, Mike, Mary and Chris Coates, Rosanne and Mike Malecki and Teri Hoo all of Brantford. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren who brought much joy into his life.
Bernard was born on April 2, 1923 in Hungary to his parents Bernard and Mary. He was predeceased by his sisters Olga Tanguay and Irma Rimovsky, brother Louis and brother- in – law Andy Rimovsky. He was also predeceased by granddaughter Janine. He is survived by brother Frank and his wife Elaine.
Bernard was a very proud WWII veteran who served on the front line with the Queen's Own Rifles. Visitation will take place from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 on Sunday June 30, 2013 at Thorpe Brothers Funeral Home 96 West Street Brantford. Service will be held in the chapel at 11:00 am on Tuesday July 2, 2013. Interment to follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Following the gravesite service, a reception will be held at the Brant Artillery Gunner's Club at 115 Henry St., Brantford where Bernard was a proud lifetime member.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. Joseph's Lifecare Centre or the Alzheimer's Society would be greatly appreciated by the family.
A special thank you to the staff on Bluebird Terrace who always treated our father with the dignity and respect he deserved. Hats off to you Dad. We know you're having a good time dancing with Mom now. We love and miss both of you but we are at peace knowing that the two of you are back together again.
