Betty “Betsy” Butler Gardner, age 83, passed away on December 25, 2012 from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Lorene Butler of New Hope, AL. She is survived by her brother, Charles (Susie) Butler of Athens, AL., sister, Deane (Ted) Garner of Hilton Head, SC and best friend, Juanita Shaver of Nashville, TN. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Betty attended Athens College in Athens, AL, Peabody College and Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. She began her teaching career in Ardmore, Al and the Williamson County Schools. She taught business education for 25 years at Cohn High School, finishing her career at John Overton High School in Nashville, TN. Betty loved her students and has continued to maintain friendships with many over the years. She retired in 1987 and began to enjoy gardening, golf, hiking and motorhome travel. She hiked many trails throughout the United States, including Alaska. Betty loved hiking because she felt closer to her God when in the midst of nature. She was a faithful member of Crieve Hall Church of Christ. Active pallbearers will be Chris Anderson, Nick Anderson, Justin Anderson, Ted Garner, Eddie Garner, and David Owen. A visitation with family and friends will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2012 from nine-thirty until eleven-thirty in the morning. A funeral ceremony to remember her wonderful life will be conducted at eleven-thirty in the Dignity Hall of Woodlawn Roesch Patton Funeral Home. A graveside ceremony will be conducted at three o’clock in the afternoon at Hayden Cemetery in New Hope Alabama.
