Billy Ray Abernathy died on November 25, 2011 at home. Billy was born July 16, 1933 to Silas Davis and Elsie Lanier Abernathy. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Preston L. Abernathy and Jerry Lane Abernathy.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 - 4:00 pm at Apex Funeral Home, 550 W. Williams Street (Hwy 55), Apex, NC. Funeral services will be Monday at 1:00 pm at Westwood Baptist Church, 200 Westhigh Street, Cary, NC with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Fuquay-Varina, NC.
Billy was a resident of Windsor Point Retirement Community, a member of Westwood Baptist Church and a member of Wake County Home Builders Association, retiring in 1993.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carolyn Mills Abernathy, brothers Max G. Abernathy and wife Alta, S. Howard Abernathy wife Peggy, and Gerald W. Abernathy and wife Yvonne.
Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Patricia A. Holman (Harry); Carol A. Campbell (Doug); Beverly A. Hering (Clark); Max G. Abernathy, Jr. (Michelle); Jennifer A. Breece (David); Conley White (Kathy); David Faircloth (Jennifer); and Kim Mills Evans (Jimmy). Also one brother-in-law, Paul D. Faircloth.
