Billy Austin Brooks, devoted husband and loving father, of Old Fort, NC; went home to be with Jesus, his Lord and Savior, on Sunday, May 23, 2010.
Billy will always be remembered for his special smile, sense of humor, and loving and gentle ways. Additionally, he enjoyed gardening, and bush trimming, and is known for his unique shaping of hedges such as a transfer truck, elephant, train, pineapple, and an a-model car.
He was the son of the late Henry David Brooks and Opal Frances Austin Brooks both of Old Fort, NC. He was born on May 22, 1939 in Buncombe County.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Reed of Old Fort, NC.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Christena Evans Brooks, two daughters; Diane Brooks of Old Fort, Glenda Glenn and husband Jay of Marion, NC; one brother, J.D. Brooks and wife Katherine of Asheville, NC; one brother-in-law, Clarence Reed of Old Fort, NC; and one grandson, Joshua Glenn and wife Courtney of Taylorsville, NC. Also surviving are many cherished nieces and nephews and their families.
He was a member of Ebenezer Methodist Church of Old Fort, NC.
A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at Grace Community Church on Hwy 70 West, Marion, NC. The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm until 5:30 pm when the service will begin. There will be special seating reserved for members of Ebenezer Methodist Church.
