C. Franklin Owenby, 63, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Monday, July 9, 2012 at a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, July 14, 2012 in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home with burial in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Paul Whitten will officiate. The family will meet friends from 6 – 8 p.m., Friday, July 13, 2012 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Samaritan's Purse, P. O. Mr. Owenby was born in Swannanoa, NC and was preceded in death by his father, Chester Millard Owenby. He served with the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War as a Patriot Helicopter Pilot. Mr. Owenby was a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist with Crisp County Medical Center. He was formerly a member of Lizella Baptist and was presently a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He has served as a deacon, RA and GA Leader and was a member of the Christian AARP Association. Mr. Owenby was an outstanding coach and was an avid outdoorsman and Air Streamer. Known as "Super Hero" to many, his first calling was to his family as husband, dad, and awesome granddad.
He is survived by the family he cherished, his wife of forty-two years, Cherolyn R. Owenby of Lizella; his mother, Florence A. Owenby of Asheville, NC; his daughters, Leigh Wiggins (Mark) of Sport Sylvia, VA and Kathryn Palmer (Craig) of Perry; his beloved grandchildren, Austin, Aaron, Aslan Wiggins and Haley and John Franklin Palmer; his brothers, Chester Owenby, Jerry Owenby and Ronnie Owenby; his sisters, Elaine Dumas, Linda Owenby and Clara Sweet; his brothers-in-law, Charles Roach, Jr. and John Roach; a special uncle, Jack Roach; his aunts, Ozella, Rubenia, Lelia and Bernard and Evelyn Cannon; he felt blessed with many nieces and nephews.
