Carter Lester, 86, went home to heaven March 12, 2013 in Round Rock, Tx with his wife and daughters by his side.
Carter graduated from Austin High School in 1944 and immediately enlisted in the Army Air Corps. After discharge in 1946, he attended the University of Texas. In his early years, Carter worked at Bohls-Kuhn Pharmacy and Toonerville Drive-in, helping to support his widowed mother and two older sisters. After UT, Carter was employed as a District Manager for the Austin Statesman. Following his career at the Statesman, Carter worked in real estate and pursued a career as an auctioneer.
In 1971, he and his wife Trudy founded Camp Doublecreek in Round Rock, Tx. He was known as "Uncle Carter" at Doublecreek and touched the lives of thousands of campers and hundreds of staff. Doublecreek was his life's work and he loved every camper and staff as if they were his own family.
Carter and Trudy loved to travel and would take long road trips to see the US. They also visited Canada, countries in Asia and Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
Carter became a believer in Jesus Christ at an early age and was an active member of Hyde Park Baptist in Austin and later First Baptist Church, Round Rock. He served as Deacon at Hyde Park as well as in other leadership positions.
Carter was born March 30, 1926 in Sherman, Tx to Lee Lester and Ruth E. (Carter) Lester. He is pre-deceased by his parents, sister Bettie Lee Rasmusen and grandson Scott Kirtley. Carter is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years Trudy Lester, daughter Judy Kirtley and husband Bruce, daughter Jane Neal and husband Frank as well as grandchildren Tracy Johnson, Dan Neal. wife Andrea and great-granddaughter Brooklyn, Drew Neal, Tim Neal and Paul Neal. His sister Hazel Dean Griffin and husband Joe R Griffin also survive him.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2013 from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. Memorial services will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at 3:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Round Rock.
