Catherine Cecelia (DeLoach) Barros died at her home in Fort Smith, Arkansas on January 21, 2014 at the age of 96. She was born May 1, 1917 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She graduated from Mt. Saint Mary's Academy in Little Rock, Arkansas. Catherine also graduated from St. Edward's School of Nursing (1938) in Fort Smith. She was affectionately known as "Shorty" by Saint Edward's medical personnel. Mrs. Barros was a nurse and a homemaker. She was a lifelong member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church and raised 5 children with her husband, Gus Barros, now deceased (1974).
Preceded in death by one son, Edward, she is survived by four children: two daughters, Marina Scott and husband Joe (Rogers, AR) and Catherine Ellen Barros (Dallas, TX) and two sons both of Ft. Smith, William Barros, her caregiver since 2004, and Phillip Barros and wife Helena.
She is also survived by five grandchildren: Catherine Scott of Falls Church, VA; Chris and Alice Barros of Fort Smith; Alex Barros, Tulsa, OK; Gregory Barros, Huntsville, AL; and step-grandson, Victor Crowell, Fort Smith.
Rosary will be at 6pm Sunday, January 26th at Fentress Mortuary, 1805 N. A St, Fort Smith. Funeral Mass will be at 1 pm Monday, January 27th at St. Boniface Church, 1820 N. B St, Fort Smith with Father Jon McDougal presiding.
Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery immediately following the funeral Mass.
