Mr. Charles Edward Anderson, 62, of Chapin, beloved husband of 37 years to Nancy Pope Anderson, passed on Thursday, February 9, 2012. Born in Richland County, SC, on February 1, 1950, he was a son of Dorothy Kirby Anderson King and the late William H. "Dub" Anderson. Charlie and his brother, Raymond, owned and operated Andy's Open Air Market on Monticello Road for many years after the death of their dad, Mr. Andy, who had been in business since 1955. He will be dearly missed by his hundreds of customers and friends he served over the years. Charlie loved living at Lake Murray, working in his yard, and doing things around the house. He always went out of his way to help others and loved to joke around. He was a loving father and Papa.
Charlie is survived by his dear wife, Nancy Anderson of Chapin; and their children, Rebecca (Karim) Ramos and Diana Anderson (Antwan) Overton; and five grandchildren; and his mother. Other immediate family members are brothers, Raymond H. (Annette) Anderson and Carl E. (Linda) Anderson; best friends, George and Alane Eleazer, Marty and Pam Padgett, and Melody Veal.
The funeral service for Mr. Anderson will be held at 2 o'clock, Sunday, February 12, 2012, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia, with The Rev. Walter Parham officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 1 o'clock. Shives Funeral Home is assisting the family.
