Charles 'Charlie' Lord, aged 71, of Stamford, Ct. passed peacefully on March 21st, 2013 at Stamford Hospital with his family at his side.
Charlie was born September 20th 1941 in Stamford, Ct. Son to Guy Lord and Margaret (Abbott) Lord. Survived by wife Connie (Hodges) Lord, married 49 1/2 years. Son Jeffery Lord, daughters Sheryl Pohl and Robin Lord Russo, and son-in-law, Robert Pohl. Loving Grandfather to Crystal and Jennifer Lord, Jennifer, Joseph and Johnathan Pohl, and Christopher Russo. Also survived by brother William 'Bill' Lord, brother-in-law Jack Coughlin and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents and sister Keren Coughlin.
Charlie retired from the City of Stamford Fire and Rescue after 34 years on the job. His firefighting career started out as a volunteer at Long Ridge Fire Company. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener, loved auto racing, playing cards with the guys and going to casinos. Known for his practical jokes, sense of humour, love of his pets, and his ever present corncob pipe. He got great pleasure from spending time with his six grandchildren.
Calling hours are Tuesday March 26th from 4-8pm at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St. Stamford. A celebration of Charlie's life will be held on Wednesday March 27th, 10.30am at the funeral home with burial to follow at Long Ridge Union Cemetery in Stamford.
