Clarke Phillip Helle
1926 – 2011

Clarke Helle was born in Adams, North Dakota on June 22nd 1926 to Edwin and Daisy Helle and passed in his home on December 28, 2011. He is survived by his loving wife, Lucie Helle, three children and two daughter-in-laws: Kris Helle, Greg and Cyndi Helle, and Clark and Charlotte Helle. He also leaves a special legacy to nine beloved grandchildren and their spouses: Chanda and Blake Raney, Mackenzie and Spencer Richardson, Kasha and Scott Sonntag, Jed and Keri Helle, Greg Jr. and Kristin Helle, Dusty Hovrud, Jennifer Helle, Hailee Helle, and Randee Helle; and 14 great-grandchildren: Taylor, Landen and Alder Raney; Dillon, Olivia and Thane Helle; Jayda Helle; Isaiah and Mason Sonntag; Kai and Porter Richardson; Joel and Jackson Helle; and Brogan Helle. In addition, Clarke was survived by his brothers Robert and Gene Helle and his sister Dorean Lavelle. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Edval and Charles, and sister Grace.
Clarke moved with his family to Puyallup in 1941. He attended Puyallup High School and in 1944, during his junior year, joined the U.S. Navy and served two years during WWII. Prior to leaving for the war, Clarke met the love of his life, Lucie (Sader). They wrote letters to remain in contact while he was away and married about a year after his return on June 21, 1947. Within the next five years they welcomed their three children. Clarke and Lucie enjoyed a long and loving life together with nearly 65 years of marriage. Together they enjoyed going to Husky football games, traveling to Maui and being with their family.
Clarke started with Absher Construction in 1949 as a carpenter for, the founder, Barney Absher. He remained with Absher for 47 years and was well respected in his field. Clarke was later a partner in the company and eventually enjoyed working alongside his sons as they joined the business.
Clarke will be remembered most for: golfing with friends at Linden, his love of Husky football, visiting Hawaii, making smoked salmon, being a tough and hard worker, watching his friends play cards at the Elks, stopping by Absher post-retirement to check-in, and his sheer delight when his grandchildren and great-grandchildren would visit.
We are so grateful for the life Clarke lived because, as we watched him, we learned so much. He was a quite source of strength, incredibly generous and humble. Clarke has sincerely loved us and helped shape who we are. He will remain a cornerstone for our family and we are truly better people because of him.

Dear Lucie and entire family,
We just got home after visiting our kids for the holidays and heard Clark's message telling us Dad had passed away. We are so sorry for your loss. We always corresponded at Christmas time, and when I didn't hear from him this year, I was concerned. I just recently came across some old pictures of Clark, Lucie, Don and Dorean at my mom and dad's. They did all know how to have a good time. I really wish we would have been able to make your family reunion. It would have been such fun to catch up with everyone. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. With love, Dale & Barb Lucht
