HICKORY - Claude Lee Hefner, 88, passed away September 10, 2013 at Frye Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health. Claude was born May 19, 1925 in Catawba Co. to the late Lloyd and Golda Bumgarner Hefner. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Inez Collins Hefner and a brother, Jimmy Carroll Hefner. He was an active lifelong member of Miller's Lutheran Church, a WW II veteran and served in the US Army in Normandy and the European Theatre, a retired brick mason, member of the American Legion, past member of VFW and a member of Lisbon Hunting Club. Surviving are his daughter; Janet McMillian of Newton; sons; Tommy Hefner and wife, Evelyn, of Hickory and Bobby Hefner of Thomasville; grandsons, Chad Parker and wife, Kim, of Taylorsville, Dustin Ladd and wife, Shaylyn, of Catawba, Rev. Chris Hefner and wife, Kristin, of Celina, TN; granddaughters, Maranda Ladd of Newton and Nikki Hefner of Charleston, SC; great-grandchildren, Collin Ladd, Mayson Ladd, Abigail Hefner, and Daniel Hefner; sisters, Reba Carter and husband, Oscar, of Hickory, Nancy Holmes of Sherrills Ford, Olivia Miller of Conover and Alma Jo Cole of Tomball, TX. and a brother, Grady Hefner and wife, Eula Kate, of Hickory. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 P. M. at Hickory Funeral Home. Services will be Friday, September 13, at 11:00 A. M. at Miller's Lutheran Church with Rev. Steve Rhodes, Rev. Chris Hefner and Rev. Robert Alle officiating. The body will be placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park with military honors conducted by American Legion Post #48. Memorials may be made to Miller's Lutheran Church, heating and air condition fund, 2280 12th.
