Clifford Aubrey Strickland, 93, of Lynchburg, passed away December 2, 2012. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Ann Rowles Strickland.
Born July 7, 1919, in Lynchburg, he was a son of the late Joseph Carter Strickland, and Fannie Kersey Strickland. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Presley, and Nellie Dudley; and two brothers, Earl and Joe Strickland.
Mr. Strickland was a United States Army Air Corps veteran, having served in WW II. He was retired from Campbell Payne Co., and was a Fellow, and life member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge # 715. He was an avid NASCAR fan, and was of Baptist Faith.
Survivors include two step-children, Vivian Sam Turner, and Jay Rowles; nieces and nephews, Harold Presley and wife Betty, Brenda Lipscomb and husband Jim, Rosa Powell and husband Reggie, Bonnie Butler and husband Jerry, Patricia Dudley and husband Jerry, Donna Baer and husband Mike, Allan Presley and wife Shelly, Geneva Hartless and husband Sylvester, and Shirley Pearce; his close friend, Joyce Roberts, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 5, 2012, from 7-8:30 p.m. at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 6, 2012, at the funeral home, by the Rev. Patricia Dudley. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery, with military honors by American Legion Post 16. Lodge members of the Moose will perform a graveside tribute.
