Major Clyde Joseph Melancon, USAF, Ret.
DOYLINE, LA – Services to honor the life of Major Clyde Joseph Melancon, USAF, Ret., 78, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Lane Memorial Cemetery, Sibley, LA. There will be a brief visitation between 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
Clyde was born on November 29, 1934, in Baton Rouge, LA to the late Achille J. Melancon, Jr. and Mary Clyde (Smith) Melancon, and passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2013. Clyde graduated from Hahnville High School in 1952. He graduated from L.S.U. in 1957, and then joined the U.S. Air Force to become an accountant. He served his country proudly during the Viet Nam War receiving the Meritorious Service Medal and retiring as Major. Clyde loved fishing, gardening, and hunting. He was a beloved father, step-father, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed.
Clyde was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy "Dot" (England) Melancon; daughter, Cheryl Melancon; brothers; Charles Sterling, Robert Gayle, and Phillip Lyle Melancon. Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Clyde J. Melancon, Jr. and Art Melancon; brother, John Wayne Melancon; sisters, Mary Claire Melancon Fisher and Joan Melancon; step-daughter, Donna Harris and husband, Allen; and step-granddaughter, Caroline Harris.
