In Loving Memory
Constance (Connie) Beach
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mom, Connie Beach (MacNichol) at the age of 76, on March 10, 2011 at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, MB following complication from a very brief illness.
Mom was born on April 17, 1934 in Blackland New Brunswick, to Arthur and Isabel Mac Nichol. She spent her childhood years on the family farm and attended grade school on the North Shore. At age 16, she left home to attend post secondary school in Montreal. She graduated with her Registered Nursing degree from the Royal Victoria She met Dad while he attended the University of New Brunswick. They were married on September 19, 1956 and from there they were inseparable. They began their careers and raising their family, starting in New Brunswick and continuing to Nipawin Saskatchewan, Meadow Lake Saskatchewan, Prince Albert Saskatchewan, Grand Prairie Alberta, and finally settling in Kenora, Dad's hometown, with their 5 children.
Mom worked in various hospitals as an OR Nurse thoughout her career. When the family settled in Kenora, Mom began her "life-sentence", nursing at the Kenora Jail and loved every day of her 25-year career there. She always spoke highly of the people she worked with. Mom was a nurse to her very last day - witty with her doctors and nurses and aware of every procedure around her. She always held her career-peers in the highest regard.
Mom was always full of life and loved to have a good time. She loved to fish and spent many hours in the boat with Dad. Mom was a very talented knitter, making sweaters, afghans and dishcloths for us all. She loved the challenge of the New York Times crossword puzzle and was an avid reader. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She could whip up a wicked brownie, butter tart, potato salad or hermit cookie. Mom never was shy to speak her mind and always had a zinger that could make you either gasp or fall down with laughter ... or sometimes, both.
When Dad died, a piece of Mom did too. We're so glad that she held on for us - that she got to know her grandchildren and great grandchild - and was able to leave us with such incredible memories. We know she's with dad right now, checking out all the neat places he found for them to explore together.
Mom was predeceased by both of her parents and by the love of her life, Duane (January 2000). She will be greatly missed by her five children and their children, daughter Susan Blekkenhorst, grandchildren Andrea (Darren & Kyler), Laura, Daniel, Lyndsay & Leah, son Tom (Bev), granddaughter Erin, son Jim (Lori) grandchildren Kate & Michael, son Gerry (Carol) and daughter Leah O'Flaherty (Kevin), grandchildren Sydney & Kevin jr.
She will be sadly missed by her brother Vance (Nan,) sister Linda (Brian) and cousin Sandra, sisters in law Peggy Beach, Pat Harris (Moe), Dorothy Beach & Eileen Collins, her nieces, nephews and their families but especially Jamie and Donna Beach who always had a seat in their boat for her.
The service will be held at the Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Wednesday March 16, 2011 at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to the Kenora Cat Shelter.
