Dale Beliveau Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 7, 2014.

Dale John Beliveau, 68, of San Diego, California ended his yearlong battle against cancer at approximately 8 PM Wednesday, July 3, 2014 in the comfort of his own home, surrounded by family and friends.

Born on Sunday, November 18, 1945, Ruth and Warren Beliveau brought him home on a crisp autumn day in St. Paul, Minnesota. Dale lived in St. Paul for part of his childhood, and then the family relocated to Iowa City, Iowa when Dale was in middle school. He was one of the youngest to graduate from Iowa City High School in 1963 at the age of 17. Shortly after graduation, he entered the U.S. Navy necessitating a signed, parental permission from his mother, of course, because he wasn't yet 18 years old. He proudly served his country on the USS Richmond K. Turner battleship during the Vietnam War. He served as a Weapons Systems Technician operating and maintaining Radar, Missile, and Gun Systems for the battleship. As a plank owner, he was among the first crew to serve on his ship.
He served three years active duty, and then three years in the reserves. While in the reserves, Dale attended the University of Iowa completing two years of general education. In 1969, he returned to San Diego, CA where he completed his Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy and a second Associate Degree in Personnel Management at Grossmont College. From 1975 to 1977 he attended National University where he studied in the Masters Curriculum, Health Services Management.

Dale's extensive career in Pulmonary Medicine expanded over 20 years of his life from 1974 to the early 1990s. He was an educator and a highly respected professional with an entrepreneurial attitude that afforded him many accolades in his field. He was honored to serve on many professional associations' boards, provided many respiratory therapy consultations, and taught courses at community colleges such as Mesa and Grossmont College. There were many people who encouraged, supported and helped Dale along the way. A few people stand out such as, Dr. Jerry Fein of Sharp Grossmont Hospital and Dr. Julian Lichter of Scripps Mercy Hospital, who were instrumental in mentoring and advising Dale during his successful pulmonary career.

Dale's genuine love of people made it an easy transition to change careers into Real Estate. In the late 80s, Dale became a Real Estate Agent, and subsequently received his Real Estate Broker License. While working for Century 21 (formerly Klowden-Forness), he became a multi-million dollar producer. For the next 13 years, Dale enjoyed working in the Real Estate field. He worked with several agents, but primarily he partnered with Diana Weinrieb. In 2000, he became licensed as a Real Estate Appraiser and began working for Armell Appraisal Service. In addition, he also worked independently in close association with many other individuals including Jan Paulsen. Dale retired from the appraisal business in January of 2013 with plans to golf everyday, take it easy and travel with his wife, Cathie, to Paris.

Dale and Cathie married on June 20, 1981 in San Diego at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. Dale and Cathie celebrated 33 years of marriage. They spent many years ballroom dancing, taking several luxury cruises to the Caribbean and the Mexican Rivera, and enjoyed local trips to Hawaii and Laguna Beach. Dale loved to play golf or he could always be found at his favorite restaurant (the Brigantine) ordering a shrimp cocktail and sipping a glass of chardonnay. He enjoyed fine dining, fine wine, and his fine wife.

His wife, Cathie Beliveau of San Diego, CA, survives Dale. He also has two surviving children from a previous marriage, Robert W. Beliveau of Boston, Mass. and Necole J. Beliveau of Seattle, WA. Felix, his beloved 15-year-old kitty, also survives Dale. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Warren Beliveau, both in 1987.

Services for Dale will be held at Greenwood Memorial Park, located at 4300 Imperial Avenue in San Diego County, California 92113. The cemetery is adjacent to Mount Hope Cemetery. Viewing and reception with light hors d'oeuvres is scheduled for Friday, July 18, 2014 at the Salli Lynn Chapel at 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Immediately following the viewing is the memorial service from noon to 1:00 p.m. A military burial will be held at Miramar National Cemetery directly after the service (2:00 p.m.) at 5795 Nobel Dr. San Diego, CA 92122 with a flag presentation and playing of taps. For more information, please contact Greenwood Memorial Park at (619) 264-3131.

Loving. Caring. Passionate. Dale J. Beliveau fought a tough battle against cancer. He never complained, always had a positive outlook with any given situation, and this past year was no exception.

'Tears can be shed that he's gone or we can smile because he lived. Do what Dale would have wanted: smile, open your eyes, love, and go on.'

Dale was a high school classmate. I can see from all the pictures he remained a happy cheerful fellow - just as I remember him. It looks like he packed in a lot in his life and had a lot of fun a long the way.
Wishes to his family for only the happiest of memories
