Danny Alvarez, age 55, of Bloomington, died Friday in Bloomington. Born February 14, 1958 in San Fernando, California, he was the son of Danny and Mary (Gonzales) Alvarez. He currently was a school custodian at Batchelor Middle School. He formerly worked at Jackson Creek Middle School and at Rogers/Binford Elementary Schools. He was a retiree from General Motors after 33 years of service where he last worked at the Bedford Foundry. A resident of Bloomington since 1993, he enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, ocean cruises, playing the electric bass guitar and saxophone and also playing "Pickle" ball. He formerly attended the First United Methodist Church and was a current member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and the Hoosier Hills Emmaus community.
He is survived by his loving family; his wife, Kathy (Maker) Alvarez; his daughter, Sarah (Sam DeWeese) Alvarez; his son, Michael (Lauriel) Alvarez, all of Bloomington and four sisters, Cecelia (Phil) Rivera, of Granada Hills, California, Cynthia (Mike) Gallegos, of Astoria, Oregon, Pauline (Larry) Dietrich, of Lancaster, California and Linda (Chris) Wilder, of Rocklin, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Rev. Frank VanAllen officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday from 12 noon to 2:00p.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be given to St. Paul United Methodist Church in memory of Danny.
