My love for you, my dear Uncle Darrell, will live on in the wonderful memories I have - both growing up with you and later as an adult. I am so grateful to have shared the beach trips with you the last couple of years. While I didn't get to spend a lot of time with you over the last few years, I always knew that you were there for me if I ever needed you. I will miss knowing you have my back. I love you.

We met Darrell a short 13 months ago, and we only spent time with him on two occasions. But during that limited time, we came to know a very strong, dedicated and faith loving man. It was obvious to us that he loved his God and his family more than anything else in life. We could see in his eyes that Hope was the love light of his life. He was definitely the family patriarch and we could see the love and respect that all family members had for Darrell. We only wish that we could have met him sooner and that we could spend more time with him.

My friend Judy (Ernst Hopp) spoke so lovingly of Darrell. May you all receive Jesus' true comfort and love at this time of sadness and loss, and may the knowledge that Darrell is with His loving and awesome Creator bring you joy in the coming days. May God sustain you in many ways as you go through this time.

To Hope, Wendy & Darren,
I am so sad for your loss. I hope each of you know how very special Darrell is/was to me. (I don't even want to say was because he is and always will be. It will never be a past tense thing for me. Many sweet memories: telling me not to tear the clutch out of the VW as he taught me to drive, telling me I couldn't go back to Mt. Mitchell with Jessica because I was engaged, and you all know many more times and places he was significant in my life. He was much like a second Father. He was always there to listen, discipline, guide, counsel, console and laugh with. We shared many times trying to see who could wash the dishes and whose hips were big enough to push the other away from the sink. I believe he loved me as much as I love (still present tense) him. He loved my sister Hope and my family. He is a VERY special man in my life. In John 21, JESUS asks Simon Peter, do you love ME? After each time that JESUS asked and Peter answered, JESUS said to "Tend My sheep." I believe that had it been Darrell that JESUS asked (and in all reality HE does when we are asked to join the "family of GOD)that he would have and did say yes just as Peter did and I believe that Darrell accepted that command from JESUS to "Tend HIS sheep". I believe Darrell served his LORD by ministering to all of us in so many ways. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith" (2 Tim. 4:7). I think this is a good synopsis of Darrell's life. Much love to each of you always, Judy
