NEW IBERIA – A memorial gathering will be held for Mr. Dave A. Benoit, age 81, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at Iberia Medical Center, with his family at his side.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home of New Iberia on Monday from 5:00 pm until 10:00 pm, with the Rosary being recited at 7:00 pm. Interment will be held privately at a later date.

Dave was a veteran of the Army and was stationed at Okinawa during the Korean War. While in the service, he played semi pro baseball and had the opportunity to place with such greats at Yogi Bera and Micky Mantle. His service to his country carried on to the State and New Iberia as he served over 20 years with the Louisiana State Police and ten years after with the New Iberia Police Dept. and Iberia Parish Sheriff Dept.

Dave was an outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. But his greatest love was spending time with his family. He adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren and will be missed dearly.

Survivors include his children, Carolyn Benoit Vice and husband Isaac, Randy Benoit and wife Latrelle, and Vickie B. Delahoussaye all of New Iberia, and David A. Benoit and wife Heidi of Coteau; 8 grandchildren, Crystal Bowers, Jennifer Segura, Jarrod and Trevor Benoit, Kristy Bailey, Devin, Emily and Erica "Frissee'et) Benoit; 5 great grandchildren, Trey, London, Ava, Madison and Tyler; his sisters and brothers, Theresa Bourliea of Franklin, Drusilla Bailey of Thibodaux, Leroy Benoit and William Benoit; and sister-in-law, Anna Mae "Wino" Lapointe.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ella Mae "Meme" Benoit; parents, Neville and Louise Hebert Benoit; son, Ricky Benoit; sister, Lois Hebert; and brothers, Louis Benoit and C.J. Benoit.
