MARBLEHEAD – David F. Barry, age 69, died suddenly on Thursday, January 21, 2010. He leaves his wife, Ann Marie Barry, with whom he shared forty years of marriage. Born in Marblehead and a life-long Marbleheader, he was the son of the late Donald E. Barry and the late Eileen E. Kirchthurn Barry.

Mr. Barry received his bachelor's degree from Salem State College and his Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration degrees from Suffolk University. For many years Mr. Barry practiced law locally, and was Professor of Business Law at the School of Business at Salem State College for 35 years. A popular teacher, his students remember him with great affection and respect. He was named Professor Emeritus upon his retirement in 2004.

He was a member of the Massachusetts and Federal District Court Bars, as well as the U.S. Supreme Court, and an active mediator and conciliator for several organizations on the North Shore. Socially as a member of Market Square Associates, he served both as president and a member of the board of directors for many years. Throughout his life, he was an avid sports fan and political analyst. He enjoyed traveling, good food, relaxing by the water, and meeting with friends at Market Square for morning coffee.

Besides his devoted wife, he leaves two sisters, Diane Lowther of Oregon, Carol McGough of Connecticut, and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held for him on Saturday, January 30, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 85 Atlantic Avenue, Marblehead.
