BERNSTEIN
David Bernstein, age 92, died in New Orleans, LA on Monday, April 29, 2013. Husband of the late Lila Willer Bernstein. Father of Steven W. and David B. Bernstein. Grandfather of Steven David Bernstein. Son of the late Sadie Barnett and Abraham Bernstein. Brother of the late Harry Bernstein and Marie Bloomstein. Also survived by nieces and nephews.
Mr. Bernstein was a native of Decatur, AL and moved to New Orleans in 1928. He was a graduate of Fortier High School and attended LSU on a football scholarship. He was a U.S. Army Sergeant during World War II and was the founder and longtime president of Delta World Tire, the largest independent tire company in Louisiana. He served as an officer of Bnai Brith, was a member of Congregation Gates of Prayer and founder of the Fortier Alumni Breakfast Group. He will be remembered for his "great warmth and wonderful sense of humor".
Funeral services will be held from the Tharp-Sontheimer Funeral Home Chapel, 1600 N. Causeway Blvd at 43rd St., Metairie, LA on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 2:00PM with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM. Rabbi Robert Loewy will officiate. Interment in Gates of Prayer Cemetery (Joseph Street). Memorials are suggested to your favorite charity.
