David Eugene Cavin was born May 22, 1925 in Wichita, Kansas, to his parents, Robert Shelton Cavin, Jr. and Laura May Harden Cavin. He died July 21, 2013 in Lee's Summit, Missouri.
David enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served in the Pacific arena during World War II. His experiences in the Navy during this time period were life changing for him and he was awarded several medals of honor for his service. He married F. Elaine Sheppard, June 19, 1949 in Wichita, Kansas where they lived until 1960 when they moved to Blue Springs, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Roberta Campbell. David and Elaine had two son and two daughters, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by daughters Terri Majors and husband John of Lake Lotawana, Missouri and Leslie Wilson and husband Phil of Lee's Summit, Missouri; sons Steve Cavin and wife Stephanie of Independence, Missouri and Randy Cavin and wife Gayla of Lake Lotawana, Missouri.
David was employed as a medical supplement salesman/business owner from 1958-1983 until his retirement, when he and Elaine moved back to Wichita to care for aging parents. In 1998, they moved to Lake Lotawana, MO with their daughter Teresa and her family. Following the death of his beloved wife in 2008 after 59 years of marriage, he was cared for at Wilshire at Lakewood care center until his death.
David was a member of the Community of Christ church and served in the office of Deacon for many years. He was a lifelong believer of the value of the Boy Scouts of America and served in many positions in that organization including regional Scout Commissioner.
