David L. Runice, age 64, of Hayward, WI passed away on Friday, February 1, 2013 at his home.
David Lee Runice was born March 15, 1948 in Soldiers Grove, WI the son of Justin "Ray" and Rosemary (Turnmore) Runice. He was raised in Beloit and graduated from high school there. Dave worked on the line for Chrysler and then General Motors Company for a short time before joining the U.S. Marine Corps on February 24, 1969. Dave served in Vietnam and was a radio operator for the fifth infantry. He was honorably discharged and was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze campaign stars, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation (Gallantry Cross Color with palm and frame) (Civil Action Color with palm and frame) ribbon bars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and Rifle Expert Badge. Dave returned to Beloit, WI where he worked as a postal carrier and then as a construction worker until 1985 when he moved to Hayward, WI. Dave worked with his father on Boulder Lodge for several years. On February 13, 1988, Dave was joined in marriage to Joann Bajek at Louie's Landing. Dave continued to help at Boulder Lodge and Louie's Landing for several years. When both resorts were sold he went to work for Nelson Lumber from 1998 until 2010. Dave enjoyed deer hunting, wood working, electronics, and tinkering on projects. He loved mowing the lawn with his John Deere tractor and making sure it was done to perfection. He was a member of the American Legion Post #218 and VFW Post #7233 in Hayward, WI.
Dave is survived by his wife of 24 years, Joann; one son, David (Juliana) Lindenberg of Rocky Mount, NC; two step sons, John (Cami) Bajek of Lakevilla, IL, Jeff (Karen) Bajek of Minneapolis, MN; one step daughter, Janet (Jim) Stern of Charlottesville, VA; two grandsons, Noah and Gabriel; ten step grandchildren; father, Ray Runice of Hayward; one brother, Doug (Lynne) Runice of Glidden, WI; one sister, Linda Briggs of Hayward, WI; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosemary.
A memorial service celebrating Dave's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at the Spider Lake Church in Hayward. A time of visitation will be held for two hours prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Spider Lake Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the State of Wisconsin Funeral Honors Team.
