Hello Fern: I am the member of Hope Baptist Church who, with my son, came to interview Del for our church's Veteran's project. He was a wonderful man and extremely knowledgeable about the events surrounding the Battle of the Bulge. He was a great inspiration to me, and especially to my son. I always looked forward to seeing him at our annual Veteran's dinner. He will be sorely missed this year, but I take comfort knowing he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and while absent in the body, he is present with the Lord. May our Lord give you peace during this very difficult time.

Hello, Fern and Family, You probably do not know me or my niece, Susan Nowak, but we are distant cousins of Delbert, Jr. and we wanted to pay our respects and express sympathy to you and your family and express our joy for Delbert's long and active life. My maternal grandmother and Sue's great grandmother, Caroline Leonhardt Durham was a first cousin of Della Bordner, who lived with Delbert, Sr. and Cliva when we were growing up. Caroline (Carrie) was born in 1887 on the Leonhardt family farm in Standley, Ohio, near Holgate. Her parents were George and Amelia Leonhardt. I'm not sure how Aunt Dell and Grandma were related as cousins, but we visited the Bordner home on Fairfax St. in Toledo a number of times when I was growing up. My husband saw Delbert's obituary in Sunday's paper and I wanted you to know about Sue and me. Grandma Durham lived to be 107 1/2 and was active as a baby sitter until her late 80's.
She actually outlived virtually ALL of our immediate family exept Sue and me.
You and Delbert are carrying on this family longevity. Sue is retired from the University of Toledo and is a Lay Associate member of the Tiffin Franciscans. I am a Lourdes University Professor and Music Department Chair. My husband had an art jewelry business for many years and most recently taught language arts in the Toledo Schools. We wish you many more years of good health and happiness--God bless you and family--our prayers are with you and Delbert. Karen and Michael Biscay and Sue Nowak
