Dionisia Gonzales Barina was born in Charlotte, Texas on October 9, 1937 the daughter of Norberto and Juanita Gonzales. She graduated from Charlotte High School and then moved to
San Antonio, Texas to attend Baptist Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. Dionisia was licensed by the State of Texas as a Registered Nurse in 1961 and worked as a nurse for 38 years, including 3 years as a First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, until her retirement from Scott and White Clinic in 1999. While working at Scott and White she attended night classes and earned an Associate in Arts degree from Temple College.
Dionisia was stationed at Bergstrom AFB, Austin, Texas, in 1962 where she met John Barina.
They were married in 1964 and they remained married for 48 years.
Dionisia died Monday, June 3, 2013 at Arbor House in Temple, Texas surrounded by her
husband and sons.
Dionisia was the oldest of 12 children and enjoyed being referred to as number one by her brothers and sisters. She loved all of her family but, she had a special place in her heart for her father who always encouraged and supported her not to accept limits on what she could do with her life. Dionisia was the first of the children to leave home and she did all that she could to help the others continue their education after high school.
Dionisia was very proud of her sons and adored her grandchildren. Her family was her life.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
Dionisia is survived by her husband, son Samuel J. Barina, daughter in law Tricia, granddaughter
Tristen, grandson Garrett of College Station, Texas and son Bobby D. Barina and grandson
Joaquin of Temple, Texas; brothers Tiburcio Gonzales of Hereford, Texas, Juan Gonzales and
Mario Gonzales of Austin, Texas, Javier Gonzales and Norberto Gonzales of San Angelo, Texas;
sisters Guadalupe Hartshorn of Spring Creek, NV, Juanita Gonzales, Francis Tamayo and Emilia
King of Austin, Texas, Maria Gonzales and Rosalia Gonzales of San Angelo, Texas. Dionisia is also
survived by 28 nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 9, 2013 at Crawford Brower Funeral Home in Temple, Texas from
6 PM to 8 PM. Funeral Services will be June 10, 2013 at 11 AM at St Luke Catholic Church in
Temple, Texas. The inurnment will be at 2 PM on June 10, 2013 at Central Texas Veterans
Cemetery, Killeen, Texas.
