Dixon McLendon Aldridge, Jr., age 78, died on May 24, 2014. He was born February 16, 1936, in Birmingham, AL. In his work-a-day world, he was an engraver for many years with Bell Company Incorporated in Trussville, and then was hired by Trinity United Methodist Church as Head of Maintenance until his retirement in 2000. He also served as a member of the Alabama Air National Guard for several years. He was preceded in death by his parents Dixon McLendon Aldridge, Sr. and Pauline Searles Aldridge and his sister, Joan. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Norma McCrary Aldridge, one daughter, Kim Farley, and one grandson, Austin McLendon Farley. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time and taking trips with his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. He has many nieces and nephews and friends who added great joy and depth to his life.
Dixon had a sweet and gentle spirit and will be sorely missed by the many people whose lives he touched. His number one source of enjoyment was helping others complete or do the things they wanted to do. Dixon loved Trinity United Methodist Church and visitation will be at the church on Tuesday, May 27th beginning at 9:30 a.m. with the funeral service following at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be sent to Trinity United Methodist Church, 1400 Oxmoor Rd., Homewood, AL 35209.
