Dominic Louis Bort, 89, of Federal Way passed away on October 18, 2012 in Federal Way, Washington. Dominic was born in Wapato and graduated from Wapato High School in 1943. Dominic as a student played football and ran track, and was a member of the FFA.
After high school Dominic attended Central Washington University where he earned a Master's Degree in Education and was inducted into the football hall of fame. Later he became a teacher for the Toppenish and Highline School Districts. Through out his life, from childhood into adulthood, Dominic remained friends with Bob Doornick, Don Smith, Wilbur Chinn, Clayton Myers, and he had special relationships with his brothers, brothers-in-laws, and sisters-in-laws.
On April 20, 1950 Dominic married the love of his life Delores, and together they raised their four children. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge of Auburn and the Elks Lodge of Tacoma.
He loved to travel and especially loved Italy and Hawaii. Dominic watched the Seahawks, win or lose, to finish concrete, and to work with his hands. During his school years Dominic was All State for track miler in high school and All Conference in football while attending CWU.
Dominic is survived by his wife Delores Bort of Federal Way; his sons Ron Bort of DeMoines, WA, Dennis Bort of Ethel, WA, Michael Bort of Federal Way, WA; his daughter Suzanne Painter of Thousand Oaks, CA; brothers Robert, Joe, Louie Bort all of Yakima; and sisters Mary Darby and Pearl Brady both of Yakima, WA; nine grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Dominic loved his wife and family and considered them to all be his "Soaring Eagles."
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 22, 2012 at Merritt Funeral Home in Wapato, WA. A Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday October 23, 2012 at St Peter Claver Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Reservation Community Memorial Park.
Merritt Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
