Donald Rhoades Affhauser, 92, of Barefoot Bay died Saturday (8/24) in Melbourne. A native of Florence, MA, he wintered in Barefoot Bay beginning in 1978. In 2008 he moved from Pine Island Lake in Westhampton, MA to Florida permanently. He was the founder of Hampshire Engineering Service and Lennox Fuel, which was a metal fabrication and oil company. He was a veteran of WW 2 having served in the US Army and was a member of Florence Congregational Church in MA. He was a lifelong member of the Masonic Lodge and the NRA. He was an avid sportsman enjoying hunting, fishing and golfing and a past member of the Northampton Lions Club.
Donald is preceded in death by Helen Iler Affhauser, his first wife and mother of his children who died April 5, 1995; his parents: Anthony and Myrtle (Rhoades) Affhauser; three sisters; and one great-grandson: Jamie Higgins.
Survivors include his wife of 14 years: Hetty; daughters: Karen (Charles) Marney of Leeds, MA, Kris (William) Celatka of Goshen, MA, Karyl (Michael) Stachowicz of Huntington, MA, Kim (Kevin) Larkin of Southampton, MA; sons: Kurt (Jeanne) of Easthampton, MA, Keith (Anna) of Glenville, NY, and Karl of Haydenville, MA; 14 grandchildren: Korrie, Craig, Chad, Todd, Cassandra, Jeremy, Michael, Jess, John, Nicholas, Kaytlin, Marlea, Sam, and Parker; and 12 Great-Grandchildren.
Funeral services and interment will be in Easthampton, MA.
