Mr. Donald Edwin Lentz, 70, of 315 Chief Thomas Rd., Harmony, died Sunday, May 18th at Mapleleaf Health Care Center in Statesville. Born in Iredell Couny on August 21, 1943, he was a son of the late Harvey Lentz and Eleanor Shoemaker Lentz. He attended Harmony High School and was a member of Hebron Baptist Church. Mr. Lentz worked for many years for Moore's Dairy Equipment and later operated Lentz Refrigeration and finally Lentz Custom Screen Printing. He enjoyed being "Daddy Rabbit" and volunteering at the Iredell Vocational Workshop and with the Special Olympics. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Eric Speight.
On October 20, 1963, he married the former Frances Brown who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Pamela Speight and her fiance' Kenneth Ward and his son, Cody along with two grandchildren, Jacob and Joshua Speight. Additional survivors include three sisters: Doris Moore (Glenn) of Statesville, Diane Martin (Thomas) of Harmony and Deborah Wright (Richard) of Lattimore, N.C.
Services celebrating Mr. Lentz's life will be conducted at 11:00 Thursday, May 22nd at Hebron Baptist Church with Rev. Darren Johnson, Rev. William Wease and Rev. Johnny Bolin officiating. He will lie in state at the church for thirty minutes prior to the service and burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Kenny Moore, Curtis Moore, Bradley Moore, Edward Hedrick, Ronald Gooden, and Keith Lentz.
The family will be assembled at the residence of his daughter, Pamela Speight at 309 Chief Thomas Rd. Harmony and will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.
