Attaway, Doris E., age 83, on December 30, after a brief illness. As a child in Michigan, she lived in various coast guard stations, as her father was a lighthouse keeper. Graduated from Flint Northern High and attended classes at Wayne State University. Married James in 1949; he preceded her in death in 2008. Worked as a secretary/administrative assistant at the University of Michigan for many years, including assignments at the Burn Unit, Office of the Vice President and Institute of Gerontology. Following her retirement she was an active volunteer, organizing and participating in several Matthei Botanical Gardens miniature exhibits at their flower shows, and co-authoring a book on early "Women's Voices", at the University of Michigan while volunteering at Bentley Historical Library. She enjoyed a lifelong love of learning, reading, gardening and thoughtful conversations with old friends and new. She is survived by son Stephen (Thalia Haft), daughter Karen(Martin Wolfertz), granddaughter Meredith(James) Rogers, grandson John(Amy) Attaway, great-grandson John Attaway, sister Maxine Porter and her family, brother- and sister-in-law Robert and Rilla Attaway and their family, niece Beth(Tom) Peterson and their family, and her beloved cat Nutmeg, who now has a loving home with Karen and Martin.
